Cape Forchu Lighthouse is at the entrance to Yarmouth Harbour and is one of the most photogenic lighthouses in Nova Scotia. The lighthouse is of tulip design and in a beautiful setting. Since 1839, the light has guided ships entering and leaving Yarmouth Harbour on a passage across the Gulf of Maine, a fishing trip. For decades, the original timber tower has stood by sentinel since it was first lit on 15th January 1840. One keeper estimated that during his 31 years on duty, he climbed the Cape Forchu lighthouse at least 47,000 times!
