The Alvord Desert is a 12-by-7-mile (19 by 11 km) dry lake bed and averages 7 inches of rain a year. It feels desolate, majestic, and other-worldly all at the same time. As a bonus – it is dark as anywhere at night so star gazing and astrophotography is awesome here. (Harney County, Oregon)
