Little Gull Island Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located on a small island off the coast of Long Island, New York. First built in 1806, the lighthouse has undergone numerous renovations and upgrades over the years and is still in operation today. The lighthouse stands at 81 feet tall and its light can be seen up to 16 miles away. Little Gull Island Lighthouse played an important role in guiding ships through the treacherous waters of Long Island Sound and was manned by keepers until it was automated in 1978. Today, the lighthouse remains an iconic symbol of the maritime history of Long Island Sound and is a popular destination for sightseers and history buffs.
