The Ruins of Windsor are all that’s left of the once magnificent Windsor mansion, which was one of the grandest antebellum Greek Revival mansions in Mississippi. Constructed in 1861, the mansion met its untimely end in a fire in 1890, leaving only 23 soaring columns, the iron stairs, and pieces of the balustrades behind. Today, these ruins are a poignant symbol of the transience of grandeur and an evocative subject for photographers. The towering columns set against the open sky create a striking composition, especially during sunrise or sunset when the light imbues the scene with a timeless quality. Experiment with different angles to bring out the stark architectural lines against the natural backdrop. The location’s ghostly appeal and historical significance make it a must-visit for every photographer passing through Mississippi.
