Chippewa County Courthouse, located on Court Street in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, is a remarkable historic landmark for photographers. This government building, constructed in 1877 for $20,000, is one of the oldest courthouses still in use in Michigan. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the courthouse was designed by Detroit architect William Scott and his son John. A rear addition was added to the courthouse in 1904, and a second addition was constructed in 1930. In 1980, the courthouse underwent a complete renovation, restoring the face of the tower clock and installing new doors and windows. Built in the Second Empire architectural style, the courthouse is a three-story cut stone building with a mansard roof. Inside, photographers can find original stamped tin ceilings and ornate cast iron capitals on pillars in the courtroom. As a significant part of Michigan’s history, the courthouse is an essential destination for photographers looking to capture the beauty of the past. (Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, USA)
