The Illinois State Capitol building is home to the legislative and government branches of the Illinois State government. Built in the French Renaissance and Italianate styles of architecture, it features soaring columns and a fantastic dome that is as beautiful outside as it is inside. It was completed in 1888 and is the tallest domed non-skyscraper capitol building in the United States.
