Vernal Falls | California Photo Spot

The Vernal Falls is a stunning waterfall in Yosemite National Park and cascades water down 317 feet to the canyon floor. Vernal Falls is, without a doubt, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Yosemite Valley.
To access, start by parking at Yosemite Valley Trailhead Parking lot and take the trail that follows Happy Isle Loop Road to the trailhead for John Muir Trail. Follow this trail to the Mist Trail. Plan to hike about 3 miles round trip and anticipate a 1,000 ft elevation gain. The hiking route will take you through the canyon to Vernal Falls and is well maintained but often crowded. Photographers will discover many photogenic views along the trail, including Grizzly Peak. Stone steps have been carved into the rock to make the trip a little easier.
Photographers can take great photos from this location, or you can ascend the rock trails to get to the Emerald Pool at the top. It is photogenic in its own right.
Anticipate the trail to be very busy in the peak season as this trail is also the trail to Nevada Falls and the summit of Half Dome. Therefore, we recommend taking photos in the off-season or a pre-dawn departure. Be well planned and prepared before visiting this fantastic photography bucket list destination.
