The Redman Hirahara Farmstead is a historical complex located south of Watsonville, California that includes a stunning Victorian house designed by William Weeks in 1897, a vernacular barn, and other structures. It is a notable landmark for its historical significance and Japanese American heritage. During World War II, the Hirahara family was sent to the Rohwer War Relocation Center in Arkansas, and the property was left in the care of local citizens. The family returned to the property after the war but many Japanese-Americans continued to experience injustices and were unable to return to their pre-war housing. The house, with its intricate design details and decorative wood exterior, provides a beautiful subject for photography. The carriage barn has a fascinating history as well and was expanded postwar to house other returning Japanese families. (Watsonville, California, USA)
