The Mojave Desert Lava Tube is a unique shooting location of a cave formed long ago by molten lava. A ladder takes you down into the tube where skylights (holes in the rock ceiling) illuminate a subterranean world. The light rays are most photogenic in early afternoon – generally from 11-1 but are still impressive until roughly 3:00. It’s a 4 mile drive to the trailhead through a quite bumpy road – so make sure you have high clearance. www.nps.gov/moja/planyourvisit/lava-tube.htm (Mojave National Preserve, California)
