Panmure Island Lighthouse-Photo by Dennis Jarvis

Panmure island is a lovely red and white wooden lighthouse on Panmure Island in PEI. Standing17.8 metres (58.4 feet) tall from its base it is the second formal lighthouse built on Prince Edward Island. The octagonal tower on Panmure Island is supported by a stone foundation and was built with heavy timbers using techniques employed by the local shipbuilding industry, such as wooden pegs or trunnels. The tower is connected by a wooden staircase, has many decorative features, and is a favourite subject for photographers. (Panmure Island, Prince Edward Island, Canada)
