Princes' Gates | Ontario Photo Spot
A must-visit spot for architectural photography, the Princes’ Gates serves as the grand entrance to Exhibition Place and the CNE in Toronto. Erected in 1927 to commemorate Canada’s 60th anniversary, the neoclassical archway is adorned with nine pillars representing the nine provinces in Canada at the time. Atop the central arch, the statue “Goddess of Winged Victory” holds a maple leaf in one hand, symbolizing Canada’s triumphs. Whether you want to capture the intricate details of the stone carvings or shoot wide to include the full expanse of the gates, there are numerous angles and perspectives to explore. The best time for photography is early morning or late afternoon when the lighting accentuates the architectural features. The area can be bustling, especially during CNE events, so plan accordingly. Note that it is a public space, and no special permissions are generally needed for photography.
