Fortress Louisbourg National Historic Site is a partially reconstructed 18th-century French fortress that honours the battles and history that once took place on this site. The fort is one-quarter the actual size of the 18th-century French fortress during its heyday, but still a massive complex with tonnes of photo opportunities. Today Fortress Louisbourg operates as a living history museum. The fort recreates what life would have been like living within the fortress walls, complete with actors filling the roles of soldiers and villagers of the era. The Canadian Government employed local tradespeople following the closure of a mine using the original plans from France by the Canadian Government. Every building was rebuilt using these plans accurate to the last nail. This authenticity makes Fortress Louisbourg a must-visit for the history buff.
