Swallowtail Lighthouse | New Brunswick Photo Spot
Share this Page
The Swallowtail Lighthouse stands on a craggy cliff on Grand Manan Island, overlooking the Bay of Fundy. This iconic white and red lighthouse, built in 1859, is a significant landmark in New Brunswick and continues to be an operational aid for navigation. Its striking location on the rugged coastline provides dramatic photo opportunities, especially during sunrise and sunset. The lighthouse and its surroundings are home to diverse birdlife, including its namesake, the Swallowtail butterfly, offering a wonderful opportunity for wildlife photography as well. Photographers should also try capturing the lighthouse bathed in the soft, ethereal glow of the Northern Lights if they’re lucky enough to be there during an aurora event. Note that the area around the lighthouse can be windy, and caution should be taken while exploring the cliffs.
