Dalquharran Castle | Scotland Photo Spot

Dalquharran Castle was designed as a family mansion incorporating castle-style features. It was commissioned by Thomas Kennedy in 1785 as a new ancestral seat for his descendants, after Old Dalquharran Castle (ruins of which stand on the same land approximately 300m away) became uninhabitable. The castle was eventually abandoned, as it was too large and expensive to maintain. The lead roof was removed in 1967 so the owners could declare it as uninhabitable and avoid paying taxes. Be aware you can not drive right up to the castle you will need to park you car on the main road and walk up the castle’s private road. (South Ayrshire, Scotland)
