Thames Barrier by Ben Wicks

The Thames Barrier is a movable barrier system that is designed to prevent the floodplain of most of Greater London from being flooded by exceptionally high tides and storm surges moving up from the North Sea. The Environment Agency receives information on potential tidal surges. They can forecast dangerous conditions up to 36 hours in advance, and will close the barrier just after low tide, or about 4 hours before the peak of the incoming surge tide reaches the barrier. The Thames Barrier Park has amazing views looking out across the River Thames at the enormous barriers. (London, England)
