Normanton on Soar is a quaint little village that dates back to the early 1100s and has amazing historic architecture at every turn. The Church of St James stands majstically overlooking the River Soar surrounded by thick greenery. Near the church is a hand-operated chain ferryboat, in use since 1901, to ferry the public across the river Soar to join up with Leicestershire footpaths. Nearby is a thatched timber-framed cottage of cruck construction dating from 1454, which is a popular subject for painters. (Normanton on Soar, England)
