Church Hill | England Photo Spot

Church Hill is a peaceful hilltop with beautiful views looking out over the River Aln Estuary and the quaint village of Alnmouth. Alnmouth Harbour was left high and dry on Christmas Day in 1806 when a storm caused the river to change its course, forcing a new route through to the sea. This cut Church Hill off, making the town’s church inaccessible and leading to its eventual destruction. The church’s position is now marked by a wooden cross. On the Western side of Church Hill stands the ruin of a Romanesque mortuary chapel built in 1870. It was built to reopen the cemetery of the medieval church. (Alnmouth, England)
