The Iglesia -San juan- Eliza is a long abandoned church that stands on a hillside overlooking the abandoned town of Vergalijo. During the 1980s and early 1990s, asparagus plantations were very significant, making the number of inhabitants significant between April and July, and the rest of the year virtually no one resided.
The agricultural estate is still in operation but its currently few workers now choose to reside in Miranda de Arga and move to the site daily. Although residents are now virtually non-existent, a significant part of the houses remain maintained, avoiding excessive deterioration. The same is not true of the church, which, despite being unique in appearance for the area in which it is, has been completely abandoned and currently threatens ruin. (Vergalijo, Spain)
