Faros de Mera - Photo by david vazquez
Faros de Mera is a small cement lighthouse sitting on the rip of a rocky headland. On this rocky outcrop there is actually a set of two lighthouses or towers , located about 300 meters from each other. Both lighthouses act as leading and guide towers for boats that want to access or leave the Ría de A Coruña. In the middle of both is the old lighthouse keeper’s house. Of very similar design, they were built in 1917 , but it was not until 1932 that they were equipped with electricity . Both are octagonal towers and painted in coloured white , with a terrace superior with balustrades lattice . A silhouette and design that makes them unmistakable. (Serantes, Spain)
