Faros de Mera - Photo by david vazquez
Faros de Mera is a small cement lighthouse sitting on the rip of a rocky headland. On this rocky outcrop, there is actually a set of two lighthouses or towers, located about 300 meters from each other. Both lighthouses act as leading and guide towers for boats that want to access or leave the Ría de A Coruña. In the middle of both is the old lighthouse keeper’s house. Of very similar design, they were built in 1917, but it was not until 1932 that they were equipped with electricity. Both are octagonal towers and painted in coloured white, with a terrace superior with balustrades lattice. A silhouette and design that makes them unmistakable. (Serantes, Spain)
