With its cylindrical towers and sturdy 13m-high walls, Castell de Montgrí looms high over Torroella. This fortress style castle provided a great vantage point for the Catalans, and served as a first line of defense during battles. There is no road access to the castle ruins, it’s only accessible via a steep 45-minute walk (around 2.5km) from the parking lot at the base of the hill. (Torroella de Montgrí, Spain)
