Stuðlagil Canyon by Thomas Bennie
Stuðlagil Canyon is an incredible gem where a stunning blue glacier river contrasts perfectly with the imposing rugged basalt columns. Incredibly up until 2009 this entire canyon was under water – the glacial river was a powerful force making the entire area dangerous. With the introduction of a nearby hydroelectric plant, the landscape of the area drastically changed. The water level decreased and with the hydroelectric plant harvesting the force of the water, the river was less fierce – revealing the canyon’s rugged beauty. (Eiriksstadhir, Iceland)
