Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon | Iceland Photo Spot
Share this Page
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is a magical photo location where the black sands of a lakeside beach is dotted with ice formations from a melting glacier. The contrast of the black sand, clear ice, and waters conspire to create a photo spot of impressive beauty. For this reason, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most popular photography destinations. The nearby beach is nicknamed Diamond Beach for the beautiful clear ice chunks that wash up on it, and the lake itself is Iceland’s deepest. The lagoon’s water is also a unique colour because the fresh water from the melting Breidamerkurjokull glacier mixes with the salty ocean water that fills the lake from the ocean. Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is in Iceland’s largest national park. This area is also a popular nesting area for Arctic terns and other wildlife species. (Jökulsárlón, Iceland)
