The Pont Saint-Bénézet, an iconic symbol of Avignon, presents a unique subject for photography. This 12th-century bridge, partially destroyed and rebuilt several times, now consists of only four of its original 22 arches stretching across the Rhône River. The remaining arches, the chapel of Saint-Bénézet, and the spectacular backdrop of the city, including the Palais des Papes, form a classic Provencal scene. Capturing the bridge from various angles at different times of the day can result in diverse imagery – from the soft hues of dawn or dusk to the bridge illuminated against the night sky. Moreover, the reflection of the bridge and the cityscape in the river below adds another dimension to your shots. A visit during summer will allow you to include vibrant festivals and street performances in your frame.
