Jardin des plantes de Montpellier is a historic botanical garden and arboretum that was first created in 1593 and has seen numerous re-furbishments and expansions over the years to maintain (and expand) its beautiful grounds. The gardens are now managed by the University of Montpellier and are completely free to explore on Tuesdays to Sundays, 12pm. to 6pm (until 8pm from June 1 to September 30). The gardens are closed every Monday as well as the mornings which are reserved for university work, school lessons or guided tours. www.umontpellier.fr (Montpellier, France)
