PIXEO iOS App Questions

The PIXEO App is free. Anyone with an iOS device can download the app and search for thousands of photo locations from around the world. The app is ad-supported, but we’ve worked hard to make them unobtrusive.

Oh no! We really tried to build a solid app, if you’re having issues please let us know by using our contact page.

If the image is shot on an iPhone PIXEO should read the geo data automatically. When this is not working, please see the next question, “How Do I Get My iPhone to GeoTag My Photos Automatically?

When you’re editing the photos on a computer you can add GPS data to the metadata in Lightroom (like this), Photos for Mac (like this), or GeoTag the photos online with a site like GeoImgr.

If you are an app user you can also visit and upload your photo and add geo data in our web based uploader.App Users can also upload a picture in the app you’ll see a map pinned to where you are. You can pinch to zoom in and out of this map. Simply place the pin on the map where you took the photo.

iPhones can record the camera’s location when you take photos. PIXEO reads this information automatically when you upload your photos. If this feature is disabled, you can turn it back on by:

  • Open Settings
  • Select “Privacy”
  • Select “Location Services”
  • Selecting “Camera”
  • Select “While Using the App”

This will happen because the world changes and weather and time marches on. Buildings get torn down or blow down and sometimes a photo spot will not be the same or disappear altogether. Please let us know when this happens by using our contact page.

Image Upload Questions

We verify every submission manually to make sure the location added is of good quality, has accurate info and is of value to PIXEO users. Typically we try and ensure it takes no more than 24-48 hours for a submitted photo to appear on the map.

Here are our ten submission rules and some of the reasons we may reject a photo submission:

  1. Nothing that Moves – We generally don’t accept images of dogs, cats, people, or other moving animals. However, animals at zoos, wildlife parks, or areas known for wildlife are acceptable.
  2. Too Tight – Close-ups or macros lacking context of the surrounding location may not be included.
  3. Excessive Text on Image – Images with large, distracting, or inappropriate watermarks could be rejected. We recommend watermarks on the left, and excessive text may lead to rejection.
  4. Out of Focus/Bad Exposure – While we’re lenient, images should be focused and properly exposed.
  5. Inappropriate Pictures – We won’t accept images displaying pornographic, racist, misogynistic, or bigoted content.
  6. Bad Data – Images with geotag info that’s too vague or incorrect for us to verify the location may be declined.
  7. Image Manipulation and AI – We require an accurate representation of the location. Significant manipulation or AI-generated content isn’t accepted, but edits to tone and exposure are welcome.
  8. Too Dangerous/Trespassing – You’re responsible for your adventures. Photos from private property or dangerous/protected areas could be rejected.
  9. Quality and Interest – Our goal is to curate a collection that inspires and benefits photographers. Images lacking artistic value or interest may not be accepted.
  10. Unique and Inspirational – We favor unique and inspiring images. If a photo is too similar to existing ones or doesn’t add a fresh perspective, we might have to decline.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Intellectual Property Questions

No, we’re not smart enough to figure out how to do that. We have enough trouble getting our flash to work. Any photo spot uploaded to PIXEO remains the copyright of the photographer. Please see the next section for more info.

Firstly, we are extremely sorry. We try very hard to respect the rights of our fellow photographers and acknowledge that there are occasions when an image could make it into our collection by accident, or you may have a change of heart. If this has occurred, we are regretfully sorry and ask that you, please Contact Us and let us know. We will remove it right away.

General Questions

We work very hard to have the most comprehensive collection of photo locations in any app. We are confident you will not find a larger or better collection of photo locations available anywhere. But, the world is quite large, and there will be some places that we haven’t covered yet. Also, the web version of PIXEO has far fewer locations than the PIXEO App because of technical limits on the web map.

But, the PIXEO App is free and all users can access the 50,000+ locations in our collection.

We continue to grow coverage on both the web and the app; however, we try and showcase the very best spots on the website. These are the photo spots that truly stand out as the must-visit places. Our thinking is that when you are at your laptop or desktop, you are planning your next photo adventure and want to know the spots you cannot miss when you go. But, once you’re there, you want to know everything nearby as well so you can shoot it if you have time. So in the app, we add everything. We think that is the best approach for our users and are always open to feedback on our contact page.
