Oh no! We really tried to build a solid app, if you’re having issues please let us know by using our contact page.

If the image is shot on an iPhone PIXEO should read the geo data automatically. When this is not working, please see the next question, “How Do I Get My iPhone to GeoTag My Photos Automatically?

When you’re editing the photos on a computer you can add GPS data to the metadata in Lightroom (like this), Photos for Mac (like this), or GeoTag the photos online with a site like GeoImgr.

If you are an app user you can also visit pixeo.ca and upload your photo and add geo data in our web based uploader.App Users can also upload a picture in the app you’ll see a map pinned to where you are. You can pinch to zoom in and out of this map. Simply place the pin on the map where you took the photo.

iPhones can record the camera’s location when you take photos. PIXEO reads this information automatically when you upload your photos. If this feature is disabled, you can turn it back on by:

  • Open Settings
  • Select “Privacy”
  • Select “Location Services”
  • Selecting “Camera”
  • Select “While Using the App”

This will happen because the world changes and weather and time marches on. Buildings get torn down or blow down and sometimes a photo spot will not be the same or disappear altogether. Please let us know when this happens by using our contact page.

Image Upload Questions

We verify every submission manually to make sure the location added is of good quality, has accurate info and is of value to PIXEO users. Typically we try and ensure it takes no more than 24-48 hours for a submitted photo to appear on the map.

Here are our general rules and some of the reasons we may reject a photo submission:

  • Nothing that moves – Geotagged pictures of dogs, cats, people or other animals will generally not be accepted. The exception would be something like a zoo.
  • Too tight – Photos shot close up/macro or do not give a view of the surrounding location may not be accepted.
  • Out of focus/Bad Exposure– We’re not super critical of image quality, but the image should at least be in focus and properly exposed.
  • Easy on the Photoshop – We won’t typically reject photos that have been colour graded, are HDR, or otherwise adjusted. We will even allow things like removing powerlines. But if your image is too heavily edited, a composite of various pictures, or otherwise looks “shopped” we may reject it from the collection.
  • Excessive Text On Image – We allow watermarks on images, but if they are too large, blatant spam, inappropriate or otherwise distracting we may not permit them. We also recommend watermarks be placed on the bottom left side.
  • Inappropriate Pictures – PIXEO won’t accept any images that display pornographic, racist, misogynistic, or bigoted content.
  • Bad data – If the geotag info is way off we may not be able to verify the location.
  • Too Dangerous/Trespassing – You take responsibility for your photography adventures. But, we may reject photos that are clearly on private land or may lead a future photog into dangerous areas.
  • Location already exists – If you are adding a new location that is too close to, or should be part of an existing location, we may reject it to prevent duplication.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Intellectual Property Questions

No, we’re not smart enough to figure out how to do that. We have enough trouble getting our flash to work. Any photo spot uploaded to PIXEO remains the copyright of the photographer. Please see the next section for more info.

Firstly, we are extremely sorry. We try very hard to respect the rights of our fellow photographers and acknowledge that there are occasions when an image could make it into our collection by accident, or you may have a change of heart. If this has occurred, we are regretfully sorry and ask that you, please Contact Us and let us know. We will remove it right away.

General Questions

We work very hard to have the most comprehensive collection of photo locations in any app. We are confident you will not find a larger or better collection of photo locations available anywhere. But, the world is quite large, and there will be some places that we haven’t covered yet. Also, the web version of PIXEO has far fewer locations than the PIXEO App because of technical limits on the web map.

But, the PIXEO App is free and all users can access the 50,000+ locations in our collection.

We continue to grow coverage on both the web and the app; however, we try and showcase the very best spots on the website. These are the photo spots that truly stand out as the must-visit places. Our thinking is that when you are at your laptop or desktop, you are planning your next photo adventure and want to know the spots you cannot miss when you go. But, once you’re there, you want to know everything nearby as well so you can shoot it if you have time. So in the app, we add everything. We think that is the best approach for our users and are always open to feedback on our contact page.
